As an Army veteran, my journey into woodworking began during my service in Hawaii, where I was inspired by a local woodworker to explore the art of woodcarving. My initial foray into creating women's bangle bracelets ignited a passion for woodworking that has only grown over the years. This experience shapes every piece I create, ensuring that each item not only serves a purpose but also carries a personal touch and a rich narrative.

At Chisel & Lathe Woodworking, we pride ourselves on our dedication to excellence, crafting functional art that enhances everyday life while honoring the beauty of natural wood.

It all started when…

Chisel and Lathe Woodworking began with a simple conversation in a coffee shop in Mililani, Hawaii, in 2003. I was drawn to the joy on the faces of a group of baristas as they received Christmas gifts from a man sitting nearby. I asked him about the gifts, and he explained they were Hawaiian bracelets made from Koa wood. Intrigued, I asked if he might teach me, and to my surprise, he agreed—with one condition: I needed to commit to weekly lessons and consistent practice.

I spent nearly a year meeting with him weekly, learning the patience and precision needed for wood carving. When I finished my own Koa bracelet, he gave me a Koa-handled carving knife he had crafted himself—a gift that symbolized the start of my woodworking journey.

Years later, I expanded my skills with cabinet-making classes and began building gifts that friends and family cherished. Their encouragement sparked an idea, and four years ago, I officially launched Chisel and Lathe Woodworking. Today, each piece I create holds a part of that original spark of learning, appreciation, and sharing through woodworking.
